Cadishead fire: Two streets evacuated in gas fears over garage blaze

Residents have been evacuated on Nelson Street and Allotment Road in Cadishead after fire broke out in a garage containing gas cylinders.

Fire crews were called at 5.20pm on Sunday 11 October to find a detached garage well alight.

Initial checks revealed two acetalyne cylinders among the material ablaze.

A large safety cordon – the standard for which is 100 metres – has been set up by firefighters on scene.

Gas supplies on nearby Dean Road have also been shut off.

Crews are still at the scene battling the fire and assessing the extent of the threat.
