Funeral for Jason Whitty today after Irlam man passes away age 54

SalfordOnline.com members are grieving as prominent local man, Jason Whitty, is cremated today.

The 54-year-old was a keen supporter of Irlam Hornets rugby league and helped promote the club with scores of match reports published in this paper over the past 5 years.

He was also an early member of the now 14,000-strong SalfordOnline.com Facebook group, and supported us in our formative years.

After a short battle with lung cancer Jason sadly passed away at St Ann’s Hospice in Little Hulton on Friday 23 October.

His funeral service takes place today, Monday 2 November, at 1.40pm at Peel Green Cemetery. Family ask that anyone wanting to attend the funeral should please arrive early. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Tiger Moth pub on Swallow Drive, Irlam

Jason’s daughter Sarah Whitty told SalfordOnline.com: “My dad was the most compassionate and caring man anyone could ever have known. He was always worried about everyone else’s troubles, even when he became terminally ill.

“Everyone who would come across him would agree, right up to the end he fought so bravely and always had a smile on his face.

“He touched many people’s lives over the years and was a key member of the Irlam community before he moved away.

“He was a well respected man and will be missed by all his family and friends.”

Jason’s final wish was that in lieu of flowers or donations people should contribute to St Ann’s Hospice or Animals in Distress, which you can do at this JustGiving page.
