Hundreds of curious visitors to the house have donated a total of £5,248, smashing the initial fundraising target of £2000, despite the theft of a charity bucket days before the house opened to the public.

Grandparents Sam and Martin Lee are behind the charitable concept.

They ran the event for the first time in 2014 raising over £3,500 for Cancer Research.

Speaking to SalfordOnline.com, Sam’s niece Hollie Cheadle said: “Everyone at The Halloween House is absolutely thrilled to have raised over £5,000 this year. Our target was £2,000 to split between St Ann’s Hospice in memory of June Ann Kiely and St David’s Hospice in memory of Linda Pearson’s, and that was raised within a few days!

“June and Linda are much loved and missed friends of The Halloween House so to be able to raise money to thank the hospices for the care and support they offered means more than I can put into words to us all.

“It was quite an emotional moment closing the final visiting times and realising just how many people had visited and how much money had been raised”.

Halloween decorations have now been taken down at the house to prepare for the festive period – with Sam and Martin promising to repeat their Swinton Halloween House Does Christmas event in December.

Their Just Giving page is still open and people who wish to donate to the two hospices can do so here.
