£18,000 on offer: Use cash seized from criminals for good work in Little Hulton

Ever wanted a slice of cash seized from convicted criminals to improve your community?

Greater Manchester Police have a staggering £18,000 to give away to good causes in Little Hulton, so if you run or volunteer for a community group then now’s your chance.

The fund – called the Community Piggy Bank – is made up of money confiscated from offenders under Proceeds of Crime Act legislation.

In January 2015 community groups in Ordsall and Broughton got the chance to pitch, and the idea was so successful it’s being spun out to Little Hulton.

Private businesses won’t be able to take part, but if you need funds for new equipment or kit, help transforming your street or even a little support for a new community group, now’s your chance.

Each group will be given the chance to perform a two-minute pitch for up to £1,500 to invest in their activities, with the winners to be decided by public vote.

In order to qualify you must be part of a community group working from or operating in Little Hulton and have a bank account set up under the group’s name.

Michaela Jones from Greater Manchester Police’s Partnership Unit told SalfordOnline.com: “This could be mum and toddler groups, football clubs, Brownies or older people’s groups, anything really so long as it benefits the local community.

“You don’t have to be long-established, in fact this money could help to get your project or idea off the ground.”

Application forms are available now from Little Hulton Police Station or by emailing Communitypiggybank@gmail.com.

Be quick though – the closing date for applications is Monday 16 November at 12 noon.

Anyone wanting funding needs to complete an application form and prepare a two-minute pitch for the event, which takes place at Harrop Fold School, Little Hulton on Saturday 5 December.
