WATCH: Jack Whitehall to appear at Eccles pub as Fresh Meat take over The Grapes

By Tony Flynn and Tom Rodgers

TV stars of the Channel 4 hit comedy Fresh Meat have set up for a two-day film shoot at The Grapes Hotel in Peel Green, Eccles.

A crew from Objective Productions, the team behind Four Lions and Peep Show, arrived early this morning to film scenes from the final series of the university-based comedy at the huge Edwardian pub on Liverpool Road.

Blacked-out banners have been hung across windows at the pub’s vault and billiards room as production staff prepare for a 48-hour shoot.

SalfordOnline.com have been told by insiders that it’s a closed set but onlookers are expected to gather outside to perhaps catch a glimpse of their favourite TV stars.

The fourth and final series of Manchester-set Fresh Meat sees the gang return for a final term as the end of university life draws closer.

At the end of the third series things weren’t going so well. JP (Jack Whitehall) had put the house on the market, but had a change of heart when he realised it meant too much to him.

The on/off relationship between Kingsley (Joe Thomas) and Josie (Kimberley Nixon) seems to be finally over while Oregon (Charlotte Richie) and Vod (Zawe Ashton) are on the rocks friendship-wise. The only housemate in a good place was ultra-geek Howard (Greg McHugh), when he scored a date with Candice (Faye Marsay).

It’s the latest in a series of high-profile TV shoots to choose Eccles as a production base since Peter Kay appeared at the Eccles Liberal Club on Wellington Road to shoot drama Cradle To Grave in March, and Ray Winstone, appearing in The Trials of Jimmy Rose, met delighted locals back in October as he settled in for food at a cafe on Church Street.
