Pendleton Proud: New beer launched to buy seats for Salford Arts Theatre

A new beer has been launched in Salford to raise money for Salford Arts Theatre.

Pendleton Proud, a 4% ABV blonde beer produced by Trinity-based micro-brewery First Chop, will be available to buy from the theatre on Kemsing Walk, off Liverpool Street, from Wednesday 25 November.

The idea has been backed by Salford City Council and all profits will go towards helping to buy new seating for the 112-place community theatre.

25 November also sees the launch of Salford’s now-annual Shelagh Delaney Day celebrations, in honour of the Broughton-born playwright.

Across two days on Wednesday and Thursday This week the theatre will host a performances of ‘All About and to A Female Artist’, a world premiere of a musical adaption of Delaney’s short story of the same name.

An actor will also read out the winning story from a writing competition launched in her honour by the University of Salford; the top 20 stories will be published in an anthology, the ‘Shelagh Delaney collection’.

Earlier this week, to celebrate the second annual event two SalfordOnline.com readers won copies of Sweetly Sings Delaney, John Harding’s academic work investigating the first 10 years of Shelagh Delaney’s work and life.

Pendleton TV’s Managing Director Simon Marsland said: “We’re delighted to be working alongside First Chop to produce Pendleton Proud and we hope the community in Pendleton and throughout Salford will get behind the project which in turn will help Salford Arts Theatre raise the money they need to buy new seats.

“This project is about pride in our community and coming together with local business to make a difference and improve facilities for everyone.”
