Claire’s Christie head shave for Salford paramedic dad raises over £1k

A woman who made the brave decision to shave off her hair to support The Christie cancer charity has raised over £1,000.

Claire Carter, 34, decided to raise money for The Christie, after being impressed by the way they looked after her father, 63-year-old Allen Carter.

Allen was forced to retire a year ago after 30 years working as a paramedic in Salford because he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Tragically the cancer has now spread to his bones and is incurable.

In an event at Boothstown Conservative Club on Saturday 21 November Claire went under the clippers in solidarity with her father, who lost his hair after months of chemotherapy treatments.

Speaking to SalfordOnline.com, supermarket worker Claire said: “I am over the moon with the amount we have raised.

“I shaved my hair as my dad lost his hair through chemo and I wanted to help him during his treatment.

“I also wanted to say thank you to the Christie’s for the way they have treated my dad, from the moment he got diagnosed last October.

“My dad’s cancer can not be cured but The Christie managed to control it. I was impressed with their can-do attitude and they explained everything really clearly”.

Over 40 people came to the charity music night, themed around the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

The final figure raised on the night was £634, with around £900 still to collect in sponsorship money. It is estimated that the final figure raised will be around £1,600.

Claire’s JustGiving page remains open for anyone who couldn’t make it to the event but still wants to donate.
