Police are urging motorists to avoid Eccles Old Road between Half Edge Lane and Weaste Lane after a collision between two cars at 11.15am today, Monday 30 November.
A blue Ford Mondeo and a blue Volkswagen Golf collided in the wet weather.
One eyewitness reported that the Mondeo has spun in the impact and crashed into a set of metal railings.
There are no reports of injuries but police are advising motorists to avoid the area if possible for at least an hour.
Traffic is reported as backing up in both directions towards Salford Royal hospital and Buile Hill Park.
