Salford murder probe: Police plea for info after woman, 36, found dead in Higher Broughton

Police are appealing to the public for any information to help solve a suspected murder that took place last night in Salford.

Officers were called to a house on St Helier’s Drive in Higher Broughton at around 6pm on Sunday 29 November. They found the body of a 36-year-old woman.

She has not been formally identified, however the woman’s family and next of kin have been informed, Greater Manchester Police said.

The woman has been named locally but police refused to confirm her identity until a formal process has taken place.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene and remains in police custody for questioning.

A post-mortem is due to take place later today to discover the woman’s exact cause of death.

Crime Scene Investigators cordoned off three houses on the residential cul-de-sac and remained on scene throughout Monday, bringing out evidence from one of the properties.

Neighbours told SalfordOnline.com that police had been going door-to-door making enquiries but the weather conditions may have disguised any sound coming from the house.

One said: “The police asked if we heard anything but we didn’t because of the wind last night. We just heard the sirens and that’s when we went out to look.

“There were police cars everywhere all over the street. They got the man and threw him on the ground and handcuffed him.”

Detectives are still working to understand the sequence of events that led to the woman’s death.

Detective Chief Inspector Terry Crompton said: “We are currently trying to establish what exactly led to this woman to losing her life.

“This is a tragic incident and we are supporting the woman’s family at this difficult time.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have any information about the woman’s death to come forward so we can give her family the answers they deserve.?
