85-year-old pedestrian hurt in Swinton van accident


Multiple emergency services were called to Deansway on the Poets estate in Swinton this morning after reports an elderly man was hit by a van.

Police, fire crews, an ambulance and Rapid Response Vehicle were called to the street at 9.50am today.

It’s understood the driver of the vehicle, believed to be a Ring and Ride van operated by Transport for Greater Manchester, accidently reversed over the man’s foot.

The scene near Swinton Moorside Cricket Club was cordoned off while police dealt with the incident.

Officers found the 85-year-old man had his foot trapped under the van.

Paramedics treated the victim for leg injuries and a bruised head at the scene and conveyed him to Salford Royal Hospital by ambulance.

His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

No arrests were made, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.
