Man dies after being found hurt in Eccles, police drop investigation

A 49-year-old man has passed away in hospital after being found injured in Eccles.

The man is believed to have been for a short time the landlord of the Albert Edward pub on Church Street.

He is understood to have been born in Blackpool and lived in Eccles for around 15 years, with many locals knowing him for operating the fast food wagon outside The Unicorn pub on Liverpool Road in Peel Green.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed to SalfordOnline.com today that they were now not treating the death as suspicious and would end their investigation.

Officers were called to Chapel Street in Patricroft at 2.55am on Saturday 5 December to reports that a man had been found with severe head injuries.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to Salford Royal hospital in a serious condition.

A number of people were questioned following the discovery, but no arrests were made.

Greater Manchester Police said a case file had now been prepared for the Coroner’s Office.
