St Ambrose Barlow pupils spread festive cheer to the community

Staff and pupils at St Ambrose Barlow RC High School helped to spread a little festive cheer to the community as they welcomed local residents for a Senior Citizens Christmas concert which has been run by the school for over 20 years.

Over 50 guests were treated to an advent liturgy with a range of musical performances and readings by the pupils, from traditional Christmas carols to contemporary songs, dance and musical instrument solos. The audience were able to join in and sing along with the children during some of the carols.

The annual event is a chance for the School to give something back to the community. The concert was held in the Sixth Form Centre café area and guests were invited to sit down in the onsite restaurant for a buffet provided by Sixth Form Hospitality and Catering students before the show began. They also enjoyed sherry and mince pies made and served by pupils on arrival.

Donations from pupils enabled the School to give each guest a hamper to take away with them full of festive goodies including Christmas cake made by Food Technology pupils. As well as receiving their hamper, all guests received a Christmas present donated by staff at the School.

Residents enjoyed the concert so much they were asking about booking for next year already! One guest said: “It was a great opportunity for elderly people to connect with and be welcomed by the younger generation. We especially enjoyed the medley of music from the choir, and loved that the songs were from our era.”
