Traffic stopped on M602 after woman tries to cross motorway

Police briefly closed both sides of the M602 motorway near Eccles this afternoon after a woman tried to walk into traffic.

At around 3pm on Tuesday 5 January police and ambulances were called to Junction 2 of the M602 westbound to multiple reports that a woman was walking along the central reservation of the motorway.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they received a number of calls from concerned motorists that the pedestrian was putting her life in danger.

Traffic was at a standstill, with drivers getting out of their cars to see what was happening.

Cars were queued up all the way back to the Regent Road roundabout and A5063 Albion Way.

The woman, who is in her 30s, was not reported to be injured.

Police escorted an ambulance taking the woman to Salford Royal hospital for further assessment.

As of 3.25pm both carriageways of the M602 have now re-opened.
