Appeal: Men armed with hammer attempt robbery at Salford Iceland

Police are appealing for information and witnesses after two men in balaclavas tried to rob a supermarket in Salford armed with a claw hammer.

Officers were called at 5.10pm on Monday 13 April to reports of an armed robbery at Iceland inside Salford Shopping Centre on Mather Way in Pendleton.

Two men walked into the frozen food store inside and demanded staff open the tills.

The would-be thieves kicked at the tills then tried to use the claw hammer to try to prise them open, but failed and fled empty-handed on foot.

Police enquiries are ongoing.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
