7-day Ellenbrook Road closure causing long delays

Ellenbrook Road in Worsley has been shut southbound for a week while Urban Vision repair the pedestrian footway.

The commuter route is closed in between 8am and 4pm in one direction between Leigh Road and the A580 East Lancs Road.

The closure started on Sunday 17 January and will last until Sunday 24 January.

Traffic is being diverted around the closure up the East Lancs to the junction with the A575 Walkden Road.

In the other direction, vehicles are being diverted through Ellenbrook, along Leigh Road to the A577 junction with the East Lancs.

It means Newearth Road is exceptionally busy in the mornings.

Emma Turnbull, owner of Bridgewater Funeral Services, commutes every morning and says the gridlock is hurting drivers everywhere.

“Coming from Blackrod to Boothstown centre isn’t too bad until you get to Newearth Road. Then it took us an hour to get from the top to the bottom and over the East Lancs. It doesn’t help that everyone is cutting through the local estates to miss the queues.

“Leigh Road outside my premises is a car park, so we never ever go through Mosley common as it can take 40 minutes from Boothstown Conservative Club to get round the corner to the centre. There’s just no easy way to get around it.”

Urban Vision apologised for the inconvenience caused while the works are underway.
