British Cycling Team to visit Salford school

Members of the British Cycling Team will be visiting Branwood School in Salford this Thursday 21 January at 8.30am to encourage staff and pupils to support this year’s Sport Relief.

In October 2015 British Cycling announced their academy team for 2015/2016, with Germain Burton, Oliver Wood, Mark Stewart and Matt Gibson selected for the Senior Men’s Endurance Squad. Success in the Olympics at Tokyo 2020 will be the long term goal for the riders.

The team will talk to the children and staff at the school about their experiences of being British athletes and members of the Senior Academy, and encourage them all to get excited about the activities they will be doing in March as part of the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games.

Mrs Kate Follett, Head Teacher at Branwood Preparatory School said: “We are all really looking forward to welcoming the athletes into our school. We are always looking for inspirational speakers to come and speak to the children and are sure the children will remember their visit for a long time. Our form six children will be taking part in a cycling road safety course later this year so it will be of great interest to them in particular.”
