The race is on for Manchester’s greatest business runners

Companies of all sizes in Manchester’s booming business sector are warming up to compete in the Great Manchester Run Business Challenge on Sunday 22 May.

The Business Challenge has become an annual fixture in the calendar of Manchester businesses, taking place as part of the Great Manchester Run, which will see up to 40,000 runners challenging themselves over 10km through city centre streets closed to traffic and lined with cheering crowds.

Last year more than 200 companies and organisations entered more than 3300 runners to compete for the prize of Manchester’s Greatest Businesses and raise hundreds of thousands for local and national charities.

With new businesses being created daily in the city, this year even more companies are expected to enter male, female or mixed teams of 4-8 runners to compete for the trophy awarded to the fastest small, medium and large businesses.

Last year’s winners of the Business Challenge trophy were John Caunt Scientific Ltd (small), Join the Dots (Research) Ltd (medium) and Pets at Home (large).

“The Great Manchester Run is not only Manchester’s Greatest Run it is also Manchester’s Greatest Business Challenge. Every year hundreds of small, medium and large businesses enter teams, train hard and line up on the start line to battle to be Manchester’s Greatest. Manchester is a powerhouse and we’re expecting the business sector to live up to its reputation and come out in force for this year’s Manchester’s Greatest Run Business Challenge.”

Amy Wilson, Manager of Support Adoption for Pets, who ran with and were supported by last year’s winner of the large business trophy for male and female teams, Pets at Home, said:
“The Manchester 10K provided a great opportunity for a large number of our colleagues in Pets at Home and the charity to take part in a great event, raising money for a cause which means a lot to us, Support Adoption For Pets.
“From experienced runners to those who just wanted to walk some of it, take part and enjoy the fun of the day – it really brought everyone together and a great time was had by all.”
