M60 overnight closures at Eccles cancelled

Planned closures of the M60 at Eccles starting this weekend have been postponed indefinitely by Highways England.

All other works starting on Monday 20 April at Swinton, Worsley, Pendlebury and Trafford Park will go ahead.

The authority said the M60 between J12 and J11 would close from 10pm to 6am on Saturday 18 to Sunday 19 April so work could start to demolish overhead gantries as part of the 17-mile smart motorway project.

But the works at Eccles have been cancelled at the last minute, with no date set for work to start.

The eastbound link road from the M62 onto both sides of the M60 will also remain open on 18-19 April, along with the westbound link road from the M602 onto the anticlockwise side of the M60.

16 metal gantries need to be removed as part of the £200m congestion-cutting scheme, so electronic signs can be installed, along with narrow lanes and variable speed limit cameras.

Highways England estimates the smart motorway scheme will be completed by autumn 2017.
