A man has been jailed for causing death by dangerous driving

James Lee (born 03/12/1985) of Dorchester Road, Swinton, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and disqualified from driving for 3 years and 9 months after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at an earlier hearing.

Scott Hope, 27, died from multiple injuries after a collision around 4.20pm on Saturday 20 December 2014.

Scott was riding his motorcycle along the clockwise carriageway of the M60 at junction 6 when he was overtaken by a red car travelling at speed in lane two of three.

Scott then pulled out into lane three and lost control after colliding with a black Seat Leon Cupra also travelling at speed in lane three.

The driver of the Seat, James Lee, was subsequently arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Sergeant Paul Higgins, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Lee was travelling over 125 miles per hour as he overtook Scott on his motorcycle who was also travelling at high speed. Scott lost control and sadly lost his life just five days before Christmas”.

“A collision such as this highlights the dangers involved with driving at high speed on public roads.”
