Monton man to run London Marathon for Down’s Syndrome

Inspired by his seven-year-old nephew Harry, Monton man Andy Benson is taking on his biggest challenge yet: running the London Marathon.

27-year-old Andy wants to raise awareness and funds for the Twincess charity, which was set up in 2011 to help parents of children with Down’s.

“We were naive to Down’s Syndrome when the girls were born and we found that there was nowhere to turn,” said charity creator Matt Parry.

“We decided that this must change.

“Many reports highlight negative aspects of living with DS, but we want to focus on the positives of the condition.”

Keen runner Andy competed in the Barcelona marathon last year and raised £2,000 for the Christie Hospital in Manchester.

Harry lives with Down’s Syndrome and Andy says he’ll have his family in mind when he’s making his way around the gruelling 26.2-mile course.

“I did intend running the Baracelona marathon again this year but had a injury whilst running which meant that I had to shelve that idea.

“I was made aware of the Twincess charity and decided that this year I would try and raise money for them.

“I have so far been pledged £350 but am hoping for a lot more, as this is a most worthwhile cause and close to my heart.”
