Update: Potential witness comes forward in Joetta Shumba appeal

Officers investigating the death of a woman following a collision on the M62 have spoken to the driver of a white transit style van, thanks to widespread media coverage.

At around 5.20am on Sunday 24 January 2016, a grey Audi S3 and a lorry travelling westbound on the M62 between the Eccles interchange and junction 11 were in collision.

The collision caused the lorry to overturn and significant road closures were put in place.

A 25-year-old woman, now identified as Joetta Shumba, who was travelling in the Audi sadly died.

A 29-year-old man, the driver of the Audi at the time of the collision, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He has since been arrested after attempting to abscond from hospital he was due to be released today and interviewed, however we have been informed he will not be released from NHS care today as first thought. He is now expected to be interviewed next week.

Earlier today Greater Manchester Police released CCTV footage of what they believed to be a potential witness to the fatal collision.

PC Paul Joynson of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Following the appeal we sent out today regarding the potential witness to the collision on the M62 on 24 January, we have had a great response from the public and we believe we have now spoken to the driver of the white van.
“I would like to thank everybody who shared this appeal and assisted with such an important part of our investigation.”
