Half term February fun in Salford


From fascinating exhibitions at The Lowry to designing your very own garden using 3D computer modelling, February promises to be a fun packed month for city of Salford.

This February Salford offers new and exciting activties for a range of different age groups, such as the Young Muscians Play day for young and aspiring musicans, as well as Over 50s Hill Walks which offers a great day out and a chance to visit some lovely locations.

Shrek The Musical

From now until Saturday 20 February 2016, £23 – £43

Direct from the West End and larger than life, SHREK THE MUSICAL is this year’s must-see show for all the family.

Based on the award-winning DreamWorks animation film, this production features an unlikely hero and his loyal steed donkey with all new songs as well as cult Shrek anthem I’m a Believer.

Sweet Treats at Lark Hill Place

Sunday 7 February 2016, 12:30pm, free

On the first Sunday of every month visit Mr Tomlinson’s Sweet Shop on our atmospheric recreated Victorian street, Lark Hill Place and pick up some sweet treats! No booking required.

Young Musicians Play Day

Saturday 13 February 2016, 9am – 3.30pm, £5 per pupil.

Any young children learning a musical instrument at school with MAPAS are invited to join together with other musicians from across Salford for the Wider Opportunities Play Day!

From musical games and singing to some percussion, there’s something for everyone including the chance for parents/carers to join in with the morning’s icebreaker session.

Digital Art at The Lowry

Now until Sun 28 February, Mon -Sat: 10am – 5pm, Sun: 11am-5pm , free

February is the last chance to see this major exhibition which provides a thought-provoking snapshot of contemporary digital art.

Featuring the work of 16 international artists, Right Here, Right Now looks at how technology affects our lives – through surveillance, artificial intelligence, voyeurism or online dating. No booking required.

Half Term activities at Ordsall Hall!

Chamber Music Mondays

Monday 15 February, 5.45pm, free

The BBC Philharmonic has started a classical concert series in the heart of Salford in partnership with the University of Salford, Salford City Council and Salford Community Leisure.

This new season is called Chamber Music Mondays at Peel with concerts taking place monthly on Mondays at 5.45pm at Peel Hall on the University’s Peel Park Campus.

BBC Philharmonic at MediaCityUK

Wednesday 17 February, 6.30pm

Internationally renowned conductor HK Gruber leads the BBC Philharmonic in an evening concert of MacMillan, Stravinsky and Linderberg at MediaCityUK.

The orchestra’s former conductor / Composer in Association, will be joined by its new Composer in Association, Mark Simpson, performing Lindberg’s Clarinet Concerto.

Over 50s Hill Walks

Wednesday, 17 February 2016, 8.30am, £15 per walk

Stay active and get out into the hills with a sociable group of like minded people.

Salford’s over 50s Walking Group allows for a great day out where you can get active whilst enjoying some lovely scenery at locations such as the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales and West Pennine Moors.

RHS gold medal winner garden designer, Joan Mulvenna, of Garden Design Manchester leads this course on how to use SketchUp 3D computer modelling software to design gardens.
