Martin Vickers joins Swinton Lions as Commercial Director

Ex-Salford Red Devils CEO Martin Vickers has joined Swinton Lions as their new Commercial Director.

Swinton Chairman John Roddy appointed Vickers after a short period as advisor to the newly-promoted Championship side.

He said that sponsorship deals had already surpassed 2016 levels since Vickers joined the team.

Vickers was a former Strategic Director with Salford City Council before his move to Marwan Koukash’s operation at the AJ Bell Stadium in December 2013.

He was replaced by the club owner as Devils CEO in December 2015.

In a statement on the Swinton Lions website, Chairman John Roddy said: “Martin is a well known and respected operator within rugby league and when he left his role at Salford Red Devils I immediately contacted him to establish his plans for the future.

“It was clear from our conversation that Martin was keen to remain in rugby league, and that his knowledge of the commercial market throughout the north west is excellent.

“We both agreed that Martin would initially come on board as an advisor to assist us with our transition following our recent promotion to Championship Rugby League. But we are now delighted that he’s able to formally join the Board at the Lions as Commercial Director.

Mr Vickers commented: “From my first meeting with John, I was greatly impressed with his vision for Swinton Lions and his strategy to build a strong, stable club at the heart of its community.

“Although I have had offers elsewhere in the game, I had no hesitation in committing to the Lions in what will be a huge year for the club both on and off the field.”
