Party Time! 92 the magic number for champions Salford City FC

Salford City were crowned champions of the Evo Stik First Division North on Tuesday night without even kicking a ball.

There were jubilant scenes at Moor Lane as the team gathered for a training session ahead of their last game of the season this weekend.

Their 92-point haul helpfully mirrors the huge success brought to the club by new owners the Class of 92.

It was heartbreak for rivals Darlington 1883 who made the journey to Warrington Town needing a win to have any chance of taking top spot in the league.

Their hopes were dashed early on when Alex Metcalfe scored from the penalty spot, and although Alan White’s header later in the half restored some faith among Quakers fans, it wasn’t enough despite all the pressure Darlington put their hosts under and the match finished 1-1.

Instagram video posted by @dsmalley7 shows the joyous scenes inside the Salford clubhouse when the news filtered through of Darlo’s draw.

It was the final element of a successful night for non-league teams across the region as FC United of Manchester won 1-0 to seal first place in the Premier Division, and vacate a spot for Salford to take.

The Champions elect host Ossett Town at Moor Lane on Saturday, and entry is again free to what co-owner Gary Neville described on Twitter as ‘Party Time’
