Grans win community cash for days out

A group running day trips for elderly ladies in Salford has won a grant to help sustain its operation.

Alstom and DF Energy, who are constructing Carrington Power Station, have contributed £400 towards the running costs of day trips organised by community group Positive Moves CIC.

The trips are organised on a regular basis for people aged 65 and above, with recent trips including visits to Bury Market and Port Sunlight.

Positive Moves CIC is as a not for profit social enterprise aiming to make positive changes to the lives of people of all ages.

They provide community-focused services and projects to inter-generational people living in the Salford and Greater Manchester areas.

Tony Wilson, from Alstom, said: “We were happy to provide funding for this excellent service. Older people can sometimes get isolated and trips such as this gather groups of people together for a great social occasion.”

Sylvia McDowell, who runs Positive Moves CIC, said: “We’re grateful to Alstom and DF \for their contribution to this valuable service. We will be using this money to keep the trips running for as long as possible.”

The new power station is being developed by Carrington Power Limited, which is owned by ESB, the Irish energy company which has operations in over 35 countries, including Ireland, the UK, continental Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
