Charity collection tin stolen in Salford cafe raid

A popular community cafe, Scrantastic on Littleton Road, was robbed last night with thieves stealing a charity collection tin.

In the early hours of the morning around 4am a man smashed through the back door of the cafe.

Once inside he stole the float for the day from the till and a charity collection tin.

He also removed the CCTV from the premises so as not to be identified.

The charity collection tin was metal with a dog on it, and was the type that had to be opened with a tin opener.

The tin was collecting money for Christie’s Hospital.

Coral Moore, 22, who is the owner’s daughter set up the collection for a number of reasons.

She is currently attending university and part of her assignment was to create a charity or fundraising event.

Her nana has also recently had treatment at The Christie, she has finished six courses of treatment and is now thankfully “on the mend”.

But the robbery has hit the family hard.

Coral said, “I am gutted, I’m gutted for my mum she works hard for her business.”

“Everyone knows mum, the builders come in there on their way to work and the locals love the cafe.”

Joanne Moore, 39, who is the owner of the business has had some of the costs of repair for CCTV estimated already, for a new system it will cost around £450, which is a lot of money for a small business.

Joanne said, ” I feel sick to the stomach, I am more upset they took the charity money and the girls’ tips more than anything else. I am really upset.”

The cafe has held numerous fundraising Macmillan Mornings with the last one raising £200 thanks to customers’ donations.

Coral and Joanne are due to hold a fundraising event for The Christie Hospital on Friday 11 March at 7pm.

The event will take place at Salford Football Club and entry is £7.

Organized is a disco with DJ, food will be served and the bar will be running.

Donations from local businesses have also been recieved to help with the event.

TV’s, hair cuts and beauty treatments are all amongst the list of prizes to be won.

It is believed CCTV footage of the offender has been obtained by police from another business premises in the area but this has not yet been confirmed.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Anybody with any information is asked to call police on 101.
