Contour Homes want to sign up Salford community reporters

Contour residents in Salford can apply to become a community reporter for their area – and could earn themselves a qualification too.

Aimed at people who want to develop their media and communication skills, successful applicants will undergo specialist training in interviewing, editing, writing stories and using video equipment, and they will use these skills to report on activities in their neighbourhood for Contour Homes.

Reporters will work closely with staff from Contour to undertake mini-interviews and cover key projects in their area. The material gathered will be showcased in a short film and published online.

The project is run in partnership with Inspiring Communities, a community organisation that aims to create better neighbourhoods.

Successful applicants will be badged as members of the Institute of Community Reporters and once the project has finished, they will be invited to join twice-monthly community reporter meet-ups.

Contour’s community investment officer, Shanine Meadowcroft, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to gain media experience and receive a qualification at the end of it.

“At Contour Homes, we’re always searching for new ways to engage our customers, and we look forward to sharing the finished film.”

Training will take place across two days, with reporters expected to spend up to six hours a week covering activities and events in their area. Travel expenses will be paid.

The deadline for applications is 4pm on Monday 14th March 2016.
