Morson sponsor world champion to defend title

Morson Group are proud to sponsor current WBA lightweight champion Anthony Crolla as he announces his next fight to defend his World Champion title.

29-year-old Anthony from Manchester is set to battle it out against Venezuela fighter Ismael Barroso at the Manchester Arena on May 7th 2016. This is Anthony’s first fight since defeating Darley’s Perez back in November 2015 and is hoping to add to his 30 wins from 36 professional fights.

Crolla has fought in both the super featherweight and lightweight divisions and is currently the reigning WBA lightweight champion.

From now to the run up of his fight, Crolla will be dedicated to a strict training regime which involves sparing, pad work, core training and strength and conditioning. Anthony will also be committing himself to a strict clean eating diet.

Anthony, who trains with coach Joe Gallagher at Amir Khan’s gym in Bolton, has had a well-documented journey to becoming World Champion after suffering a fractured skull and a fractured ankle when he tackled burglars fleeing from a neighbour’s home, injuries which could have ended his career.

Anthony Crolla said: “Becoming World Champion in November was something I had dreamt about since being a little boy. My troubles over the past two years have been well-documented and I will never forget receiving that title. I’m really excited for the fight in May, I’m up against an opponent who is feared in boxing and is known as a knockout artist but I’m confident I’ll find a way to win.”

At the heart of Morson Group’s core values lies a commitment to inspiring talent and supporting the community and Morson are proud to offer sponsorship to a local talent.

Anthony Crolla added: “I am so genuinely grateful for what Ged Mason and the Morson team have done for me. I am in a fortunate position that I am now a World Champion but the sponsorship Morson gave so early on in my career meant I was able to concentrate on my boxing, it enabled me to buy my kits and put petrol in my car to get to training. As my career took off, I was able to use the sponsorship to facilitate my boxing further and travel to LA and train with some of the best boxers in the world. I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunities they provided me with and I am extremely proud to wear the Morson logo.”

Ged Mason, CEO of Morson Group, added: “We have supported Anthony’s journey since the early beginnings and we are very proud of all that he has achieved and how well he conducts himself. Anthony is a credit to boxing and his family. We are delighted to maintain our sponsorship with Anthony and continue to support a local talent as he takes on the next step of his career.”
