WiFi, gluten-free upgrade as Morrisons Eccles gets £1m revamp

A revamp of Morrisons in Eccles has seen the store add free Wifi, a dry cleaners and Amazon collection lockers.

The Irwell Place store in the middle of the town centre has undergone a 10-week, £1 million upgrade.

The Eccles store’s longest serving colleagues Alan Whatmough and John Treacy took the honour of cutting the ribbon at a special event having worked at the supermarket since it originally opened 39 years ago.

They were joined by local school pupils and the Salford Red Devil’s club mascot.

When customers were asked what would improve their Morrisons shopping trip, they said that the store needed to be uncluttered, with a simplified layout to suit families with prams and trolleys and new services added.

Throughout the shop floor, new fridges and ceilings have been installed, fixtures and fittings removed and the whole shop floor de-cluttered.

After suggestions from customers its gluten-free, wheat-free and dairy-free ranges have also been extended.

Eccles parents also asked Morrisons management for more facilities in store for families.

In response Morrisons has introduced the popular Nutmeg children’s clothing range and added family favourite, a Make Your Own Pizza counter.

The customer cafe has also been transformed with casual dining tables and removable chairs to make it easier for dinners to position prams or wheelchairs.

A ‘Big Red Bus’ kids meal station is also a feature of the cafe. Parents also have more dedicated parking spaces in the car park positioned near the store entrance.

The extensive works required the bakery to close for three weeks and the cafe for two days and Morrisons say every aspect of the store has been replaced, refreshed or repaired.

Store Manager John Bohanna said: “This has been a long process but I’d like to thank our shoppers for their patience.

“Our customers have been great in telling us what they want and I’m confident that the new look store delivers everything they have asked for.

“We have made a significant investment and introduced some exciting new counters and ranges to create the perfect supermarket for our shoppers.”
