TWO Duck Races, Easter Egg hunts, chocolate festival and more: Top 10 things to do in Salford this Easter Bank Holiday weekend


Salford has a packed event schedule over the next four days for the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Salford Quays Duck Race – Good Friday 25 March – 12.30pm to 4pm

The quacktastic Quays Duck Race is back for a third year in Salford to raise money for specialised healthcare equipment for children and babies.

CBBC presenter Katie Thistleton will start the ‘races’ and there will be stalls, games and entertainment for all the family to enjoy.

Anyone can take part, at the Helly Hansen Watersports Centre in Salford Quays.

This is free to watch for spectators or £2 to enter a duck.

New Bailey Duck Race – Good Friday 25 March – 11am to 3pm

The Manchester Duck Race is set to return for the seventh successive year on Good Friday.

Thousands of families are expected at Leftbank, Spinningfields and New Bailey to cheer on the rubber ducks as they make their journey down the River Irwell, in Salford.

To keep you entertained until the big race, there are craft workshops, The Urban Farm petting zoo, fairground rides and street food from The Kitchens.

Ducks can be bought online for £1 or on the day, with all proceeds going to local children’s charity Brainwave, helping children with additional needs and genetic conditions. There will be five winners on the day, with prizes!

Taking place at both Spinningfields and New Bailey (just across the River Irwell in Salford), there is plenty to keep the whole family entertained.

Chocomania free festival at the Lowry Outlet Mall – Good Friday 25 March to Easter Monday 29 March – 10am to 6pm

The Lowry Outlet Mall is hosting a weekend festival dedicated to chocolate with free entry over the four days.

Find regional stalls and producers selling chocolate, cakes and sweet treats, plus delicious regional food and drink, crafts, jewellery and more. The stalls will open 10am to 6pm on Friday, 10am to 7pm on Saturday, 11am to 5pm on Sunday and 10am to 6pm on Monday.

There’s live chocolate-themed demos, at the ‘Sweet Treats Stage’ on the first floor of the centre, a Wonka Bar trail in search of eight missing bars – those who complete the trail will be given their very own Golden Ticket which will allow them access in to Willy Wonka’s ‘Chocolate Factory’.

Trail maps can be collected from near the information desk from 10.45am to 3pm each day.

Easter Bunny Hunt at Blackleach Country Park – Good Friday 25 March – 11am to 1pm

The Easter Bunny is hiding out somewhere in Blackleach Country Park. Can you help to find him? Hop along to the Walkden beauty spot’s visitor centre, pick up a clue sheet and off you pop. Dress for the outdoors and get ready to have some fun in the fresh air.

This is a free event.

Saturday Playhouse at The Lowry – Saturday 26 March – 11am to 12.30pm

Lookout – it’s Saturday Playhouse! This is a free and weekly art activity for children and their families in a dedicated Lookout space for families at the Lowry Theatre, Salford Quays.

Suitable for ages 5 to 11.

This is a free event.

Salford 10k Road Race – Starting at Salford Sports Village – 10am – Good Friday 25 March

If you’ve already filled up on Easter chocolate and you want to shed some pounds this may be perfect for you.

The annual event is organised by the Salford Harriers. Starting at 10am and limited to 700 runners.

Prizes for fastest male and female runners.

This is free to watch for spectators, £14 to enter.

Easter Egg Hunt at Ordsall Hall – Easter Sunday 27 March – 1pm to 4pm

Find the eggs hidden around the Ordsall Lane Tudor mansion and its gardens in this fun Easter Sunday quiz for all the family.

Solve the clues and win prizes!

This event costs £1 per quiz.

Roe Green Easter Egg Hunt – Saturday 26 March – 1pm to 4pm

Wrap up warm, buy your Easter Egg Hunt Map at Roe Green Church Hall and take your kids on a trail around Roe Green hunting out colourful hidden eggs to claim a prize at the end.

This event costs £4.

All funds raised will go towards the area’s play park development fund.

Easter Bunny Hunt at Clifton Country Park – Saturday March 26 – 11am to 2pm

Can you find the Easter bunnies hiding in the park? Drop in at the Visitor Centre to get a Easter Bunny trail sheet. Dress warmly and wear your bunny ears with pride!

This event costs £1 per sheet

Creation Station at Salford Museum and Art Gallery, The Crescent – Easter Sunday 27 March – 12noon to 4pm

Head along to the gallery and get creative – for the Easter weekend children can have a try at making photo frames.

This is a free event.
