Beechy Under 15’s hopes of title victory slipping away

Beechfield United Under 15’s Predators saw their hopes of winning the JFC Sports Division title take a backward step when they suffered a 3-1 away defeat at Unsworth CC.

Beechy have games in hand on their nearest rivals but they cannot afford to drop any more points. In this Tameside Football League fixture the teams were level at 1-1 after an evenly balanced first forty minutes but it was Unsworth who took control in the second period and secured a deserved victory. Robert Boardman netted United’s consolation goal and Oliver Heron was named Man of the Match.

In the Bolton Bury and District League the Under 15’s Tornadoes were away to Mossbank Blues and went down 2-1 following their latest Section C fixture. Kurtis Taylor was on target for Beechy who were happy to accept a draw until Moosbank Blues had other ideas when they snatched the points via a last minute winning goal.

Several squad players were missing due to illness for the Under 13’s Tornadoes away game versus Parkwyddn JFC.

Making a sluggish start United found themselves 4-0 down within twenty minutes but getting their act together Beechy responded and Dillon Barnes scored following a Joe Horrocks corner to stop the rot. But just when it appeared as if the Tornadoes had weathered the storm they gifted Parkwyddn two more goals before half time.

Parkwyddn added another goal early in the second half but displaying a greater urgency Beechy were back in the match when Charlie Ryan scored twice in quick succession followed by a goal for Joe Horrocks who was soon on target again but Parkwyddn had done enough and won the match 9-5. Jacob Wilson collected the Tornadoes Man of the Match award.

The Under 11’s Thunder were at home for their final Supplementary Tournament Red group game against Moston Stripes. It was the visitors who started the stronger and created numerous chances and eventually took the lead but Beechy sorted out a few defensive issues and slowly got a foothold in the match. Harvey Walker played a big part in United’s opening goal with a great through ball to Samuel Oludoyi who’s neat finish levelled the scores before half time.

Into the second half and a goal from Harvey Walker put Beechy ahead and now in control United increased their lead via Prince Idusuyi who produced a surging run and calmly slotted the ball into the net. Dominic Lawton was rewarded with a good goal when he cut inside from the left and supplied a neat finish. Moston Stripes reduced the arrears but this goal was cancelled out when Samuel Oludoyi scored again to put the seal on a fantastic cup run by the Beechy boys.

Guilty of a lacklustre performance were the Under 9’s Storm who were away to Woodbank JFC for a Supplementary Tournament Purple fixture. Throughout the contest United failed to find any fluency in their play though Freddie Jackson, Oliver Percival and Caden Gibson all came close to getting a goal but were denied by the in-form Woodbank goalkeeper who made some excellent saves. For the second successive match George Haywood was voted the Storm’s Star Player.

Due to holidays and illness the Under 8’s Tornadoes had to play their cup game against Deans Sports with the minimum allowed five players.

Aiden Lawton was the Tornadoes goalkeeper for the match and full credit to all the Beechy lads who played their part in a thoroughly entertaining contest. Both teams attacked and defended superbly in the first half which surprisingly finished 0-0.

At the start of the second half Beechy opened the scoring closely followed by a Deans Sports equalising goal. As both sets of players found more space on the pitch chances were always on offer and it was the Tornadoes who eventually edged this nine goal thriller. Goalscorers for United were Jonathan Lowery, Joel Thorndyke and Joshua Taylor who was voted Man of the Match for his all-round sportsmanship.

Despite taking the lead via an own goal the Under 8’s Storm didn’t play to their full potential in the Supplementary Tournament Yellow game with AFC Monton White. Michael Walsh recived the Storm’s Best Player award.
