Can you beat 91? Oldest pupil wanted for 100 years of Westwood Park Primary School

Westwood Park Community School in the heart of Winton is set to celebrate its 100th anniversary in style on Sunday 1 May.

The school’s centenary celebrations promise to be a fun-packed occasion.

The school will be opened not by a celebrity but by the oldest alumni the school can find: at the moment the frontrunner is a 91-year-old former pupil!

Headteacher Sara Walker said: “The school has been at the heart of the community for a 100 years and we think its only right that we should celebrate this in style.

“We are planning to have a terrific celebration with all the schoolchildren keen to get involved.

“On the day there will be a steel band, a petting zoo, donkeys, live music from local band Pontiac, food stalls, children in period costumes, games and lots of family entertainment including a raffle with 100 prizes.

“We will have – fingers crossed – a one third replica model of an Avro biplane made by a local model maker, this will be a replica of one that actually flew over the skies of Eccles in 1916 and children will be able to sit in it and have their photographs taken.

“Inside the school we shall be having a wall of photographs which will depict the history of the school with photographs of classes spanning the decades.

“We are also loking for the oldest living pupil who attended the school to cut the opening ribbon, so far we have located a lady aged 91 who will be doing the honours, unless we find somebody older!”

The school is looking for photographs of the school to put on their heritage wall, these include class photographs, sporting events, teachers, basically anything to do with the school.

So if you were a past pupil at the school get rummaging about in your collections for photographs of your happy days spent there.

If you have any photographs or memorabilia relating to the school could you please contact Parent Governor Zoe Brown at mmsnowieb73@outlook.com
