Witness appeal after man assaulted at Irlam station


British Transport Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted at Irlam station on Sunday, February 21, at 4pm.

PC Peter Greenhow said: “The victim was at the station with his wife when a man began insulting them and a verbal altercation ensued.

“The man then punched the victim in the head. As the victim attempted to call police on his mobile phone a second man grabbed the phone, threw it on the ground and stamped on it, smashing it. The two men then left the station and headed into Irlam.”

Both men are around 18 to 20 years old. The first man is approximately 5ft 10ins tall with dark short hair and of average build. He was wearing a pale jumper or top with a bold stripe.

The second man has a skinny build with a thin face and protruding cheekbones and short blond hair. He was wearing a dark padded jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference 264 of 31/3 .
