Police sniff out Eccles cannabis farm in immigration raid

A man has been arrested after police uncovered a cannabis farm in a flat above a shop in Eccles.

At 6am on Sunday 3 April immigration officers knocked on at flat on Liverpool Road while looking for a wanted man.

Searching the rooms they became suspicious when they picked up the unmistakeable scent of a homegrown drugs farm.

A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of abstracting electricity and production of a controlled substance.

He has been bailed while police enquiries continue.

The occupiers of the shop stressed that the flat above had nothing to do with the shop itself.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
