‘Drunk girls’ arrested after car smashes into Matalan Swinton

Two women have been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car rammed through the side of a Matalan store in Swinton in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to the superstore on Westover Street at 5.45am on Thursday 27 May.

They found a silver Peugeot 206 convertible lodged in the side of the building.

Two women were arrested at the scene.

The crash caused substantial structural damage to the wall.

A spokesperson for Matalan Swinton said the store would be closed for the rest of the day.

GMP Salford West posted on Facebook: “Many innocent people are injured as a result of drink driving, fortunately on this occasion nobody got injured including the offenders.

“Both females are in currently in custody awaiting to be dealt with when they are sober and fit to be dealt with.”

Repair of the wall has already started and it is hoped that following a safety inspection Matalan will be re-opened tomorrow.
