Police appeal for witnesses to A57 Regent Road smash in Salford


Police have issued an appeal for anyone who saw a crash which closed the A57 Regent Road in Salford to come forward.

Traffic officers shut the busy main route into Manchester shortly after 4pm on Sunday 3 April.

They found what appeared to be a head-on collision between a black Renault Clio and a blue Renault Megane at a set of traffic lights at the junction of Regent Road and Ordsall Lane.

@gmptraffic posted new pictures of the crash site on its Twitter account this morning.

They show the Megane with both its driver and passenger airbags deployed, and the smashed front end of the Clio.

Two people were hurt in the crash – details here – and required hospital treatment.

The accident caused major tailbacks along the eastbound section of the M602 motorway and police, fire crews and ambulance staff cleared the scene.

Police re-opened the road after an hour and a half.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101.
