Elderly woman knocked down on Fairhills Road in Irlam


A woman in her 60s was treated by paramedics this morning at the roadside in Irlam after being hit by a car.

The woman is understood to have been crossing Fairhills Road near Tesco Extra at 10.30am today when she was clipped by a young male driver in an Alfa Romeo.

She was conscious and breathing at the scene but was treated for serious leg injuries.

She is now on her way to Salford Royal hospital, a spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said.

The man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of cannabis and being unfit to drive.

As of 11.30am he was being taken to Swinton Police Station for questioning.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
