Bolton care home death: Five women charged with perverting course of justice

Police investigating allegations of neglect at a Bolton care home have charged five women with perverting the course of justice.

Officers say the arrests are in connection with the death of an 86-year-old man at the Lever Edge care home on Saturday 9 January.

The man has not been identified.

Lever Edge care home, run by Hill Care 1 Ltd, is a 70-bed care home which offers general care for older people, as well as a dementia care unit.

It was last inspected by the Care Quality Commission in 2013 where it passed a random inspection.

A note has appeared on the CQC website which states: “We are carrying out checks at Lever Edge Care Home using our new way of inspecting services. We will publish a report when our check is complete.”

Michelle Hayes, 49, of Woodvale Avenue, Bolton, Deborah Amanda Scrivens, 43, of Hurstwood, Bolton, Danielle Menzies, 22, of Glenbrook Gardens, Farnworth, Michelle Gilman, 44, of Moorby Walk, Bolton and Lynda Johnson, 63, of Calf Hey Close, Radcliffe, have all been charged with perverting the course of justice.

All five have been bailed to appear at Bolton Magistrates Court on 21 April 2016.

They were originally arrested in January and bailed pending further enquiries.
