Armed police arrest two men seen carrying guns in Urmston


Armed police arrested two men in Urmston after reports from the public that they were seen carrying firearms.

At around 6pm last night, Thursday 14 April, police were called to Crofts Bank Road, Urmston, following reports that two men had been seen carrying guns.

Armed officers were deployed to the scene and temporarily closed the road while they investigated the incident.

A 53-year-old man and a 41-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of committing offences under section 16(a) of the firearms act and remain in police custody for questioning.

Over 115 guns have been handed in to police in the past two weeks for Greater Manchester Police’s firearms amnesty.

Detective Sergeant Steve Warriner from GMP’s Trafford Division said: “I would like to reassure the community that no threat was made or directed towards a specific person and there should be no cause for concern amongst local residents”.
