Serious smash on M62 at Eccles causing long delays


A serious crash on the near Eccles is causing long delays into Tuesday morning’s rush hour.

Traffic cameras show tailbacks for at least seven miles on the M62 westbound.

Fire crews, police and ambulances were called to the M62 westbound, heading towards Manchester, between junctions 11 for Birchwood and 12 for Eccles.

The crash saw two inside lanes closed while police dealt with debris in the road.

The front end of a dark green Jeep Cherokee was damaged with glass and plastic covering the carriageway, while the front and rear end of a black Chevrolet were completely smashed.

A third car and a van were also reportedly involved.

Lanes two and three remain closed westbound.

There are still severe delays on the M62 in both directions but all lanes are open on the eastbound carriageway.

There are also delays on the M60 anti-clockwise carriageway on approach to J12 and on the M602 heading out of Manchester towards Liverpool.

The Highways Agency are advising drivers to allow extra time for their journeys and to consider alternative routes.
