Two charged with multiple offences after Patricroft shopkeeper defends store from knife-wielding thugs

Two men have been charged after a shopkeeper fought off would-be robbers from his corner shop in Patricroft, Eccles.

At around 8pm on Friday 22 April two white men walked into Deans Food & Wine, at the junction of Fir Street and Station Road.

They demanded cash while waving a knife around.

Both were caught on CCTV.

The member of staff behind the counter defended himself before managing to chase both men out of the store.

Now two men have appeared in court charged with multiple counts of theft and attempted robbery.

Gregory Booth, 37, and Matthew Booth, 31, appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Monday 25 April.

Gregory Booth was charged with five counts of theft, attempted robbery, threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place, and commission of a further offence during the operational period of a suspended sentence.

Matthew Booth was charged with attempted robbery, threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place, four counts of theft, and commission of a further offence during the operational period of a suspended sentence, the previous offence being burglary.

Both have pleaded not guilty to all counts.

They were remanded in custody and are due to reappear at Manchester Crown Court on 23 May.
