Family of tragic Peel Green mum, 53, donate stunning wedding dress

A silk wedding dress of great sentimental value has been donated to St Ann’s Hospice as a thank you to the charity.

The garment – which is encrusted with crystals with a lace jacket bolero – will be sold off to raise money for the Little Hulton branch of the hospice.

Bride Wendy Butler, from Peel Green in Eccles, wore the specially-made dress on her wedding day in September 2010.

It would be just over a year later that she sadly died, aged 53.

Husband Martin and son Lee, who gave her away, have donated the outfit to the hospice which will use proceeds from its sale to care for patients.

Wendy, customer services manager at Taylor Wimpey in Trafford Park for 25 years, was diagnosed with breast cancer on her 50th birthday in 2008.

After her condition deteriorated, she spent four months as an inpatient at St Ann’s in Little Hulton.

Sister Geraldine Bent was so impressed by the care and compassion she received that she now volunteers for the charity.

Geraldine said: “The dress cost more than £1,200 and it’d be a shame if it wasn’t put to further use to honour Wendy’s memory. Rather than hanging in a wardrobe, we’d prefer the hospice to benefit if possible.

“After she died, it took me a while to go back to the hospice but I enjoy helping out and it’s the least I can do for the way they cared for my sister.”
