Police close Peel Green Road after cyclist suffers serious head injury


Police have been forced to close Peel Green Road in Eccles after a serious crash between a cyclist and a car.

At around 11.55am today, Thursday 12 May, a 32-year-old man riding a bicycle collided with a Volkswagen Combo van near the United Utilities waterworks.

He suffered a serious head wound with heavy blood loss and was subject to emergency paramedic treatment at the scene.

It’s understood the road will be closed for around an hour while police investigate the scene.

The man is now en route to Salford Royal Hospital for further urgent treatment.

Buses and general traffic are being diverted away from the accident.

Peel Green Road accident

Stagecoach Manchester says its 22 service is unable to servce Peel Green Road until further notice.

That service in both directions is being diverted via Liverpool Road and the M60 motorway.

First Manchester has tweeted that its 22, 68 and 100 services are also unable to serve Peel Green Road and are following the same diversion.

Cars are being diverted via Haddon Road.

The route is being used as a diversion between Eccles and the Trafford Centre after Barton Road was closed in January.

Delays to the work mean Peel Green Road will still be used as a diversion until at least the end of May.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101.
