Warning in Winton: Mum stung by bogus waste collector

One local mum conned out of cash by a con-artist is warning others in Winton not to be duped.

The 35-year-old victim, who asked not to be identified, had a knock at her door on Wednesday evening.

She spoke to a man in his 50s with a strong Irish accent who asked if she had anything to throw away.

The mum-of-four allowed the man to start moving rubbish out of her front garden, which he piled up outside the house.

“I can’t believe I did it,” she told SalfordOnline.com, “but I paid him £30 up front”.

The man, who is described as being white, of chunky or fat build, with grey hair, told the woman that he would be back in half an hour with his van to take away the rubbish.

He never returned.

“I just wanted to warn people in Winton not to make the same mistake I did,” she said.

If you have bulky waste to throw away, the current best advice is to go through Salford City Council, however this does cost £40 a time.

You can call their waste collection team on 0161 909 6500.
