Ordsall party this weekend for Queen’s 90th

Ordsall will celebrating Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday in style with a special service and family fun day this Sunday 12 June.

One of the oldest parishioners at St Clement’s Church – aged 97 – is to open the event and she will be presented with a sash and crown in her honour.

Organisers have asked SalfordOnline.com to withhold her name so it is a surprise on Sunday.

Every person who attends the service at 10am on Sunday will be given a special commemorative book free of charge: ‘The Servant Queen and the King She Serves’.

St Clements, off Groves Avenue, sits right in the heart of the Ordsall community and has been serving the local area since 1886.

The vicar, Reverend Sandra Kearney, told us more about this weekend’s special event.

She said: “The service is being held to celebrate the life of Queen Elizabeth and special events are being planned for the day.

“We shall be getting the local children involved on the day and they will be making a special crown for our guest of honour.”

After the service there’ll be a family fun day outside on the church lawn (if the weather holds up), starting at around 11.30am, complete with a fun bus, clowns, craft stalls, food and drink.

It’s free for all to attend.
