£10k up for grabs for community groups in Salford

Community groups in Salford are being encouraged to bid for a share of a £10,000 cash pot, launched for the third time by one of the region’s biggest housing associations.

Contour Homes already supports a whole range of projects, including work clubs to help people find jobs, schemes to help residents grow their own fruit and veg, and activities for young people.

But it is now launching ‘Cash for Communities’ for the third year running, with the aim of helping even more residents to run projects that make their neighbourhoods better places to live.

Last year, dozens of applications were received by Contour Homes, with sums of up to £2,000 awarded to community groups. The winning projects included a community gardens mural, shower facilities for a local community centre and furniture and books for a local library.

Now groups are being urged to bid for a fresh cash injection in 2016.

Neighbourhood lead, Andrew Lord said: “We were delighted with the success of last year’s ‘Cash for Communities’ scheme and are really excited to be running it again this year. We know there are lots of groups out there doing amazing work and making a real difference. We also know that it’s tough to come by funding in this day and age and want to do our little bit to help.

“This year, we’ve made the application process easier to encourage more groups to apply and want to support at least ten projects that aim to strengthen the community and bring people together.”

‘Cash for Communities’ will see £10,000 given away to community projects in Contour neighbourhoods between now and the end of March 2017. Groups can apply for funding by emailing their idea to communityinvestmentteam@contourhomes.co.uk

Further guidance on the application process can be found at www.contourhomes.co.uk

Sums of between £500 and £2,000 will be awarded to groups whose activities support one or more of four themes drawn up by Contour Homes:

Job, training and enterprise opportunities

Community spaces, health initiatives or community sports projects

Activities for young people

Helping people to get online and/or make their money go further
