Rush-hour M62 lorry smash ‘will take hours to clear’

Drivers are being warned that a crash between two lorries this morning on the M62 near Rochdale is still having a severe impact on the motorways in the region.

Police closed off the eastbound M62 between junctions 21 and 22 at 6.30am this morning, Wednesday 15 June.

One lorry driver, in his 40s, was airlifted to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries to his leg and hip.

As of 9.45am three lanes remain closed eastbound and drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Highways England said: “A police investigation is likely to take several hours with recovery and repair work following.”
