Mum hails ‘genuine Salford community’ after son’s stolen bike replaced by donations

A Salford mother has heralded a “genuine community” within the city after kind-hearted donations helped replace her son’s bike when it was stolen two weeks ago.

Kyle, 11, had been playing out with friends at Buile Hill Park when he came home in tears.

Initially too afraid to tell his parents Hayley and Anthony what had happened, he reluctantly told them the bad news.

He’d had his bike stolen.

Hayley, 30, said her son was heartbroken: “He was so devastated, he’d only just got the bike as a present for Christmas.

Straightaway Hayley put out an appeal on social media, but after two weeks they had got no further in their search for the missing Carrera mountain bike.

This is when friends of the family James and Karl Worthington decided to take matters into their own hands and step in.

They asked around for a few small donations and they were able to cobble together enough money to replace the bike, surprising Kyle in a visit last week.

Hayley, who works for Salford City Council, admitted it was a great surprise: “They just came round with it and Kyle was shaking with happiness.

“I’m forever grateful to James and Karl, it is so kind and generous, couldn’t thank them enough!”

A post about the news shared in SalfordOnline.com’s Facebook group has already been shared over 100 times and liked over 1,000 times.

She added: “Thankfully the response was overwhelming, not just from the good people but also from local businesses such as the Confetti Box and Karl and Co Barbers, who all thought Kyle deserved a new bike and donated so generously.

“It really shows that for all the bad people out there, there are also some really good genuine people and Salford’s community have all united to put a smile back on a young boy’s face!”
