Boy hospitalised after suffering suspected stab wound at school

A schoolboy is in hospital this afternoon after suffering a suspected stab wound outside a school in Eccles.

Emergency services were called to Ellesmere Park High School on Wentworth Road at 3.25pm this afternoon, Tuesday 12 July.

Paramedics treated the teenager for a puncture wound to his thigh.

It’s thought the year 9 pupil was approached by a former pupil after school and stabbed in the leg.

It’s not yet known what implement or weapon was used to cause these injuries.

The victim, who is believed to be 14 years old, was treated on scene before being taken to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: “There was no serious blood loss but we did tell the hospital we were coming in advance.”

The boy’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A Greater Manchester Police investigation is ongoing.

Ellesmere Park High School were contacted for comment on Tuesday afternoon but were not immediately available.

A statement sent out headteacher Mrs HL Aaron reads: “You may have heard that there was an isolated incident after school today.

“The situation was swiftly dealt with and the boy is recovering well.

We have jointly reviewed our systems and processes with the police who have provided reassurance that our procedures are robust.”

On Tuesday afternoon school activities continued as normal.

Ellesmere Park is renowned in Eccles and Salford for being a safe community with good schools.

Ellesmere Park High School opened as Eccles Grammar School in 1958.

It became Wentworth High School in 1987, before becoming Ellesmere Park High School in September 2014 and moving to a new, more modern building off Salisbury Road.

Anyone with information can call local police on 101.
