CCTV: Residents up in arms over Boothstown ‘crime tourism’ burglary spree

Residents in Boothstown are so upset about an increase in targeted burglaries over the past month that some of considering hiring their own private security.

That’s the message from local councillor Bob Clarke, who represents Boothstown and Ellenbrook.

“We’re in fear at the moment, we don’t know what’s happened.

“Last week one resident got her house broken into while there were two young children sleeping upstairs. It’s frightening.”

Cllr Clarke told SalfordOnline.com how Wednesday night saw the fifth car stolen in five weeks on the Moorings Estate in Boothstown.

A passport, cash and a games machine have also been taken in break-ins.

Some residents are so worried at the moment that they’d be willing to pay monthly to fund a private security firm to patrol the estate, says Councillor Clarke.

John Furzer, who lives on the Moorings Estate, said: “I am growing increasingly frustrated, annoyed, and fearful that our estate is seen as an area for ‘rich pickings'”.

Homeowners on Godmond Hall Drive have raised concerns about a number of other attempted break-ins caught on CCTV.

Video footage shows one would-be thief in a balaclava walking down the street trying all the front and back doors in a bid to get inside.

Locals suspect the would-be thieves are in their mid-to-late teens and on camera all appear to be wearing hoodies.

It is understood they have been ‘working’ in groups of two, three and four.
